PM & R – or physical medicine and rehabilitation – is just one of the many specialized treatments that Texas Orthopedics provides for our patients. PM & R is an area of medicine that aims to restore function and quality of life to those who’ve suffered a physical impairment affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons.
PM & R doctors are known as physiatrists. They’ve completed comprehensive medical training often coupled with an associated subspecialty certification in an area such as brain injury medicine, spine care, or hospice and palliative care.
The goal of physiatrists is to find a way to maximize a patient’s independence and quality of life despite their physical challenges.
You may need to work with one of our physiatrists if you, or a loved one, have suffered the following:
- A stroke or other injury/illness resulting in nerve damage
- An accident resulting in immobility due to chronic pain or limited function
- Complications following surgery
- Chronic pain from from a debilitating condition like arthritis or an overuse injury
The work our physiatrists do is tireless, and nothing short of inspirational. They use traditional therapeutic exercises, along with cutting-edge modalities and manual manipulation to help patients achieve success.
In addition to PM & R services, Texas Orthopedics offers sports medicine and physical therapy, occupational therapy (OT), and specialized hand therapy. To make an appointment with one of our PM & R physicians, please contact us here.
