Claire Ryan, MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon who specializes in Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Trauma. She treats acute and chronic conditions of the knee, hip, and shoulder, including traumatic injuries involving fractures. She also specializes in shoulder replacement and reconstruction.
Born and raised in Chicago, Dr. Ryan completed her undergraduate studies at Northwestern University where she graduated Cum Laude, with Honors. She earned her medical degree from Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City. Following graduation, she completed her orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Texas at Austin. As part of the inaugural resident class, Dr. Ryan received extensive leadership training including serving as Administrative Chief Resident for three years. She completed her fellowship training at the world-renowned Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado. As part of her training, she had the privilege of caring for athletes at all levels of competition, from high school to Olympic champions. She currently serves as a team physician for the US Ski and Snowboard team.
Dr. Ryan finished her orthopedic training with a fellowship in Orthopedic Trauma at Auckland City Hospital in New Zealand where she had the opportunity to treat complex orthopedic trauma.
Dr. Ryan has published numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and has presented her research findings at the local, regional, and national level. She has received several research-related honors, including the Clinical Research Award from the Steadman Philippon Research Institute and the Young Investigator Award presented at the American Academy of Pediatrics. She currently serves as a reviewer for the American Journal of Sports Medicine and she is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), and the Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA).
In her free time, Dr. Ryan loves to ski, travel, and spend time with her husband, young daughter, and their family’s two beloved pups.
