Essential Oils for Back Pain
Essential oils are a popular home remedy for many ailments. When it comes to back pain, there are not a lot of medical studies available to prove they actually work. Texas Orthopedics spine specialists Dr. Ai Mukai explains to SpineUniverse, that while essential oils won’t cure back pain, they can help alleviate back pain symptoms.
Dr. Mukai recommends checking with your doctor on incorporating essential oils into your treatment plan.
“I would stick to treating chronic, low-level pain,” Dr. Mukai says. “If there is any numbness, weakness, bowel or bladder incontinence, or severe, incapacitating pain, you should go to the emergency room. If the pain doesn’t improve within three to five days, you should make an appointment with a doctor.”
If you decide to add essential oils into your back-care routine, Dr. Mukai suggests trying lavender or orange oil, both of which can aid in pain management when used as aromatherapy.
