Dr. Jason Somogyi knows a thing or two about hands.
He’s one of Texas Orthopedics’ fellowship-trained hand and wrist specialists, and he’s also eager to lend a hand whenever he can to those in need.
In the past four years, Dr. Somogyi has participated in three mission trips spanning the globe and providing his specialized surgical skills to people with limited access to medical care.
He traveled to El Salvador with the Helping Hands organization to help trauma patients and those suffering from chronic conditions and congenital deformities.
In Peru, Dr. Somogyi volunteered under one of his chief hand surgery mentors who has been visiting the country for more than 20 years. While there, he worked with a team of other hand surgeons on correcting congenital deformities in nearly 40 kids at the National Children’s Hospital in Lima.
Another mission trip took him to Vietnam where he had the opportunity to work alongside his wife, who is an oculoplastic surgeon at TOC Eye and Face. Dr. Somogyi provided his hand surgery expertise and also assisted with surgeries for the face and eyes totaling nearly 80 procedures.
Dr. Somogyi is extremely grateful for the time he is able to spend with these patients and their families who are less fortunate, and he hopes that in some way he is contributing to a lasting improvement in their quality of life.
