Sprains, Strains, & Bruises

Most sports injuries are a result of minor trauma to muscles, ligaments, and/or tendons. Symptoms include immediate localized swelling, pain, and/or discoloration.

Growth Plate Injuries

Some sports injuries may affect the growth plate. The growth plate is the area of developing tissues at the end of the long bones in growing children and adolescents. When growth is complete, sometime during adolescence, the growth plate is replaced by solid bone.

Overuse Injuries

Pain injuries such as stress fractures (a hairline fracture of the bone that has been subjected to repeated stress) and tendinitis (inflammation of a tendon) can occur from overuse of muscles and tendons. These overuse injuries in young athletes are most commonly seen in the shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle.

Common pediatric sports injuries we treat include:

  • Little League Shoulder
  • Shoulder Instability
  • Shoulder Impingement
  • Shoulder Separation
