Robert A. Foster, MD, is a board-certified Orthopedic surgeon with fellowship training in hand surgery. Dr. Foster specializes in minimally-invasive carpal tunnel surgery, complex hand reconstruction surgery, sports injuries, upper extremity arthritis and trauma care.
Dr. Foster completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Texas in Austin. He earned his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, and his Orthopedic Surgery residency at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland. He earned his fellowship training in Hand and Microvascular Surgery at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
Dr. Foster is passionate about his work, and with a background in biomedical engineering, he brings a highly technical and intuitive approach to hand surgery. With all the intricacies of nerves, arteries, tendons (and more) in the hand, he specializes in one of the most complicated of all orthopedic specialties.

He has been voted by his peers to the Texas Monthly Super Doctors list from 2007-2020 and as a 2021 and 2022 Legacy Member Hall of Fame Super Doctor. He was also recognized as an Austin Monthly Top Doctor in 2021 and 2022. Dr. Foster is also an active member of the teaching faculty of Dell Medical School’s Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program.
Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Foster enjoys traveling, spending time with his wife, their four children, and two grandchildren, plus Longhorn sports and keeping a salt water reef aquarium.

Meet Robert Wright, PA-C
Physician Assistant for Dr. Robert Foster
Robert “Rob” Wright, PA-C, is a board-certified Physician Assistant who has been working alongside Dr. Robert Foster since October 2000. Rob received his bachelor of science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Texas Galveston. He received his Master of Medical Science degree from the University of Nebraska. Before joining Texas Orthopedics, Rob practiced as a Physician Assistant in plastic, reconstructive, and hand surgery in Dallas. He is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
Rob is married and the proud father of two children. He enjoys scuba diving, snow skiing, and spending time with his family in his free time.
